What Personally-Identifying Information does RLI Collect on its Sites?
Like most website operators, RLI collects non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. RLI’s purpose in collecting non-personally-identifying information is to better understand how visitors use its Sites. From time to time, RLI may release non-personally-identifying information in the aggregate, e.g., by publishing a report on trends in the usage of its website.
Certain visitors to the Site choose to interact in ways that require RLI to gather personally-identifying information. The amount and type of information that RLI gathers depends on the nature of the interaction. For example, ordering an EasyTomato router from us (through our Site at www.easytomato.org) will require an email address, phone number, and shipping address. In each case, RLI collects such information only insofar as is necessary or appropriate to fulfill the purpose of the visitor’s interaction with the Site. Visitors can always refuse to supply personally-identifying information, with the caveat that it may prevent them from engaging in certain Site-related activities.
How does RLI use the Personally-Identifying Information that it Collects?
RLI may use the personally-identifying information it collects (1) to send you email to tell you about new features, solicit your feedback, or just keep you up to date with what’s going on with EasyTomato; (2) to contact you (by email or otherwise) regarding RLI, its campaigns, and the Sites; (3) to process donation payments, including contacting you in case we have trouble processing a payment; (4) to maintain and improve our Sites; (5) to keep records related to the Sites; (6) to collect statistics about the behavior of visitors to its Sites; (7) to respond to your requests and to publish them in order to help us clarify and/or respond to them, or to help us support other users with similar requests; and (8) for other purposes identified on Site pages where the information is collected.
How does RLI Protect your Personally-Identifying Information?
RLI takes appropriate industry-standard steps to protect the personally-identifying information you share with us against unauthorized access, use, alteration, or destruction. RLI discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only to its employees, contractors, and affiliated organizations that (i) need to know that information in order to process it on RLI’s behalf or to provide services available at the Sites, and (ii) that have agreed not to disclose it to others. Some of those employees, contractors and affiliated organizations may be located outside of your home country; by using any of the Sites, you consent to the transfer of such information to them. RLI will not rent or sell potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information to anyone. Other than to its employees, contractors, and affiliated organizations, as described above, RLI discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only when required to do so by law, or when RLI believes in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the property or rights of RLI, third parties, or the public at large.
RLI has no obligation to retain your personally-identifying information, and may dispose of your personally-identifying information at any time without notifying you, subject to the restrictions of applicable law. You must keep your own, separate back-up records.
